CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
One of the core principles of architecture is to improve peoples lives through the built environment.
The main handbrake in New Zealand is the cost of building.
We're contantly assessing ways to increase the quality without the cost being prohibitive - the project pictured is currently under construction by Kiwi Modular Homes, and is significantly cheaper than the prices we received during tender, even from one of NZ's largest housing companies.
Due to its small size, this home is able to be constructed in "modules" in a factory, prelined and preclad. These modules are then transported to site and bolted together.
There is lots of talk about ways to produce low cost housing in NZ, BUT this project is real, rather than just hyperbole.
